Sources: In August 2002 an incomplete version of the NIRVANA portion of this session mysteriously appeared in MP3 format on a file-sharing program on the internet. Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through The Strip from this session was officially released on import (e.g. European) versions of In Utero, whilst all the other NIRVANA songs are early demos. Heart-Shaped Box, Scentless Apprentice, Milk It and Very Ape were re-recorded for In Utero, as were Moist Vagina and I Hate Myself And Want To Die, which missed the final cut, but ended up on the B-Side of the All Apologies / Rape Me single and The Beavis and Butthead Experience compilation respectively. It's Closing Soon was broadcast by John Peel on Radio One and can be found on the commercial bootleg Outcesticide II: The Needle And The Damage Done as well as amongst traders in FM>ANA(1) form. 'Miss World' appears on the Hole outtakes album My Body My Hand Grenade.

Notes: Whilst on tour in Brazil in January 1993 (10), NIRVANA took the opportunity to work on material for their forthcoming album, In Utero. (1) Very little was known about this session until in August 2002 an incomplete NIRVANA portion of this session mysteriously appeared in MP3 format on a file-sharing program on the internet. A previously unheard session leaking out so long after the event was sensational news; the NME picked up on the story within two days. Session producer, Craig Montgomery, was later able to confirm that the circulating MP3s were from an incomplete, highly generated and badly butchered copy of the session's ough mixes tape. (28)

The band recorded the session over the course of a week, following their show in Sao Paulo. (28) Presumably the last day of recording would have been the 22nd to give the band time to prepare for their festival appearance the following evening. Montgomery remembers, "They were just in doing more demos for In Utero, to get more stuff on tape. Five or six songs were done, some songs didn't make In Utero. We did everything live in one take with the vocals added if he had the lyrics written. He didn't have many lyrics written, so usually it was just what we call a scratch vocal, which is him singing live." (29) The band also requested that Montgomery record a running monitor mix, so as to capture any ideas that might then be worked
